I gladly welcome you to read this webpage, which involves certain background-information about this website that I altered and updated after reading several articles involving the best ways to make a website accessible (and usable!) to everyone. Accessibility is still a discussable item website developers chat about nowadays, but nevertheless I made my attempt at making Zwinkyness more accessible. If you have any comments or help you can give me, please contact me.

Accesskeys

Numbers indicated in front of the links are the numbers of the accesskeys. Windows users need to press ALT + #, Macintosh users should press CTRL + #. The # indicates the number of accesskey.

Standards Compliance

  1. All pages on this site are Bobby AAA approved, complying with all the Bobby guidelines. However, since most features cannot really be judged, this is mostly a judgement call. I believe all pages qualify for this feature.
  2. All pages on this site is WCAG AAA approved, complying wih all priority 1, 2, and 3 guidelines of the W3C Web Content Accessibility Guidelines. Again, this is a judgement call since most guidelines are intentionally vague and need interpretation.
  3. All pages on this site validate as XHTML 1.0 Strict. This was tested with a XHTML Validator.
  4. All pages on this site use structured semantic markup. H3 tags are used for navigation titles, H1 tags for main titles, H2 tags for subtitles. For example, on this page, JAWS users can skip to the next section within the accessibility statement by pressing ALT+INSERT+1.

Navigation Aids

  1. All pages have a search box that can be found on top of the page. Both posts and pages can be searched.
  2. All pages contain a minimum of one link to the home page, Zwinkyness.
  3. I have provided a sitemap which can easily take you anywhere you want to when you get lost. You can access it by following the link or clicking accesskey 9.
  4. All titles on this weblog are constructed in a way that they can help any reader to understand where exactly they are at (this is a judgement call: it is hoped that the page titles provide the necessary information for everyone).
  5. For your aid, there is a quick skip link provided that skips directly to the content. This link is only viewable in non-standard browsers (for example: a text only browser or one that does not support stylesheets).

Images

  1. Alternative text is provided for all images.
  2. If an image conveys more information beyond what is in its alternative text, an extended description is provided (also known as the LONGDESC attribute).
  3. Several tools, amongst them some special viewers such as Wickline Colourfilter and Q42 helped me to determine that Zwinkyness is viewable by people with all sorts of colourblindness.

Design and Coding

  1. This design was tested and worked properly in the latest version of several browsers, including Internet Explorer, Mozilla, Mozilla Firefox and Netscape.
  2. The layout works in resolution 800×600 and up.
  3. Text is readable in text-only browsers. This was tested by using the Lynx Viewer.
  4. For the convenience of those who use older browsers, Zwinkyness was tested using the Backwards Compartibility Viewer too. It is however, recommanded for your own safety and security that you download the lastest version of your favourite browser to search the World Wide Web.
  5. This design was created using div layers rather than tables. I try to keep the use of tables to their original purpose: for data.
  6. External stylesheets using CSS were used in order to construct the layout. Therefore, this website is still readable in browsers that do not support stylesheets. The CSS is valid.

Fonts

  1. All fonts on this website use relative sizes. They can be enlarged or made smaller if necessary, by adjusting the text size of your browser.
